My Counselling Philosophy
Engaging in therapy is courageous and deserving of respect, patience, and empathy. I’m inspired by those who struggle and seek help despite the considerable shame and stigma surrounding doing so in our society. I also believe that the positive benefits of therapy, like increased hope and self-awareness, radiate beyond the individual client, positively influencing families and communities.
Cultivating an authentic and collaborative therapeutic approach underpins my counselling philosophy and considers my clients within their complex network of relationships and family roles.
I seek to conceptualize my client’s challenges and strengths within an anti-pathologizing framework where beliefs, worldviews, and identities are honoured and explored. I also strive to foster a sense of safety, non-judgment, and genuine support to encourage others to move toward psychological, emotional, and spiritual healing.
I’m passionate about providing emotional, cognitive, and behavioural support to folks struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidality, life transitions, PTSD, childhood trauma, and traumatic loss.
I’ve learned from diverse people whose resilience has left an indelible mark on me. My personal and professional experiences have led me to believe that overall the antidote to suffering is compassion and connection. The relationship between myself and my clients serves as the foundation of therapy, paving the way for emotional safety, growth and healing.
Education, Training, & Professional Development
I earned my Honours Bachelor of Science Degree (Psychology) in 2006 from the University of Toronto, and shortly after, I studied at George Brown College, earning a Behavioural Science Technology Diploma with Honours in 2008, focusing on Applied Behavioural Analysis. I completed a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University in 2024 and graduated with distinction.
I have participated in various professional development activities, including earning a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy certificate from the University of Toronto in 2013, completing a Neuroscience and Science of Mindfulness course at McMaster University in 2021, and undergoing Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASSIST) in 2023.
In 2024, I completed the following training at The Narrative Therapy Centre of Toronto: Part 1: Narrative Therapy Approaches to Trauma (January 2024) and Outsider Witnessing and Definitional Ceremony: Bringing Hope, Action, and Connection to Our Work (May 2024).
I’m passionate about staying current on all things related to trauma, relationships, and neuroscience!
My current level of training allows me to draw from an integrative tool kit, including strategies grounded in attachment, mindfulness, narrative, emotionally-focused and cognitive behavioural therapy modalities in my role as a certified trauma therapist.
